UpToDate 17.1 for PC, PPC & PDA (Free)

A unique resource for clinicians and patients
.
The idea behind UpToDate is relatively simple, but totally unique.
Every day, clinicians have questions about patient care. Patients have questions about their health as well. Why not recruit a faculty of experts to answer those questions, keep the information updated, and create a format that is easy to use? Why not also provide all of the necessary background information to understand why the recommendations are being made?
UpToDate does all of that and much more.

.

UpToDate is a worldwide clinical community that you can be part of and benefit from.

.
UpToDate is the largest clinical community in the world dedicated to synthesizing knowledge for clinicians and patients. Our community includes more than 3,800 expert clinicians who function as authors, editors and peer reviewers and over 340,000 users who provide feedback and questions to our editorial group. Our role is to facilitate interaction among members of the health care community and to synthesize and disseminate information in order to help doctors be better doctors.

.

UpToDate answers your clinical questions.

.
UpToDate is an electronic information resource - available on the Web, desktop, and PDA. With UpToDate, you can log in from the office, exam room, or bedside and get specific, detailed answers to your clinical questions. Over eighty million patient-related problems are researched each year with UpToDate.

.

UpToDate is comprehensive and current, keeping you informed of the latest clinical findings.

.
UpToDate covers more than 7,400 topics in 13 medical specialties and includes more than 76,000 pages of text, graphics, links to Medline abstracts, more than 254,000 references, and a drug database. Our physician editors and authors review and update the content continuously. An updated version of UpToDate is released every four months.

.

UpToDate provides treatment recommendations that help patients get the best possible care.

.
UpToDate includes treatment recommendations based on the best medical evidence. Recommendations are kept current as new studies are released and practices change. We are now grading our recommendations, so you can assess their strength and the quality of the evidence more quickly. For more details, please see our editorial policy. UpToDate is written by expert physicians in their respective fields, so you have confidence in our recommendations.
More than 3,800 physician authors and editors, who are experts in their respective fields, write topic reviews that cover all the major aspects of a particular condition, including symptoms, tests and diagnosis, and treatment options. All topics are also subjected to rigorous peer review.

.

UpToDate is evidence-based, providing you with information you can rely on.

.
UpToDate is evidence-based and uses a literature-driven updating system; more than 400 journals are monitored by editors and authors, and anytime something of importance is published, it is incorporated into the program. The key word here is "incorporated." UpToDate is not a journal watch. New studies are not simply added, but rather they are placed in the context of what has already been published in that field.

.

UpToDate is unbiased - providing you information that is not influenced by commercial interests.

.
We believe it is crucial to maintain our editorial independence, so we do not accept money from pharmaceutical companies or other advertisers.

Board Simulator: A Systemsbased Review for Usmle Step 1, Version 1.0C

Most Helpful Customer Review
.

As an international medical graduate I used the Board Simulator in my preparation for USMLE step 1, found it very helpful. The questions are rather tough, the explanations to the answers are thorough and promote logical thinging. It is a comprehensive review. Great for training and learning at the same time, althoug may be time consuming. I went through it all and was scared to score only 75% in average. I though I would barely pass the USMLE. To my surprise, the questions on the USMLE were about one level easier and I scored 99 on the Step 1. From my experience I give high recomendations to the Board Simulator in USMLE Step 1 preparation.

An interactive Online Guide to the Neurologic Examination with Video Demonstrations - Companion to "Neuroanatomy through Clinical Cases"

The NeuroExam Video demonstrates how to perform a complete neurologic examination. It is intended for medical students, residents, and other students in the health care professions. We recommend that this video be used in the classroom setting, where it can be shown in its entirety or using selected excerpts. Students can then review the exam by visiting neuroexam.com, and can learn about the neuroanatomical interpretation of the exam by reading the textbook Neuroanatomy through Clinical Cases.
The NeuroExam Video introduces the neurologic exam, and then presents a detailed demonstration of the exam consisting of the following six subdivisions:
1. Mental status
2. Cranial nerves

3. Motor exam

4. Reflexes

5. Coordination and gait

6. Sensory exam
.
In the era of modern neuroimaging methods, the neurologic exam remains an essential diagnostic tool. It is a critical way station in the clinical decision making process, dictating whether imaging studies or other tests are required. In addition, the neurologic exam enables the clinician to decide what regions should be imaged, and when emergency therapeutic interventions are needed prior to any diagnostic tests. By understanding how to perform and interpret the neurologic exam, health care professionals in all specialties can help preserve the functioning of the nervous system, vastly improving patient quality of life.

The Whole Brain MRI & CT Atlas

Harvard Medical School lecture notes: Introduction to Neuroimaging

The Atlas is intended as an introduction to basic neuroanatomy, with emphasis on the pathoanatomy of several leading central nervous system diseases. While attempting to present a range of brain abnormalities, we have not attempted to survey the entire extent of brain disease; the reader should seek this type of information in a comprehensive textbook of neuroimaging. We hope in future additions to include the parkinsonian syndromes, epilepsy, and samples of neuropsychiatric syndromes, among other conditions.

Psychiatry Finals: EMQs and OSCEs

This revision guide contains Extended Matching Questions (EMQs) and Observed Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) that comprehensively cover the major topics in Psychiatry likely to be tested at medical school. It will also be an invaluable resource to those taking other exams such as the PLAB and postgraduate Psychiatry examinations.
Part 1 comprises 58 EMQs, divided into 8 chapters, covering questions on mental state examinations, general adult psychiatry, developmental and organic disorders, treatments, and management issues. Most EMQs focus on a particular presentation or issue and are based on clinical vignettes that describe a clinical scenario. Part 2 covers OSCEs, which are based on common clinical scenarios and stations frequently encountered in exams. The 23 questions cover history-taking, communication, and practical stations.
Ideal for medical students and junior doctors, this book is intended to complement rather than replace other psychiatry books, and will help students develop a better understanding of the clinical aspects of psychiatry.

Sexual Function in the Prostate Cancer Patient (Current Clinical Urology)

Sexual dysfunction presents a major challenge to physicians who take on the task of treating men with prostate cancer. While curing the disease and saving a life is paramount, improving technologies and therapies offer skilled surgeons and clinical oncologists the opportunity to eradicate the disease without compromising sexual function. In Sexual Function of the Prostate Cancer Patient, John Mulhall and a panel of internationally recognized experts on prostate cancer and sexual function assess in detail the current state of prostate cancer treatment. The authors offer a broad overview of the pathophysiology and treatment of erectile dysfunction in men with prostate cancer, reviewing the latest findings regarding erection-sparing radiation therapy and sexual function outcomes after laparascopic and robotic prostatectomy. Additional chapters discuss intra-operative maneuvers to minimize post-operative erectile dysfunction and pharmacologic penile preservation and rehabilitation. Timely and authoritative, Sexual Function in the Prostate Cancer Patient is a highly readable guide to preserving post-prostate cancer sexual function that no urologist or radiation and medical oncologist should be without.

Electrocardiography for the Family Physician: The Essentials

Family physicians are often the first, and sometimes the only, point of contact for many patients within the health care system. The standard 12-lead electrocardiogram is one of the most common tests obtained and interpreted by the family physician, with most of the physicians reading their own recordings and basing clinical decisions on their findings. It has been shown that family physicians can achieve proficiency in the interpretation of over 95 percent of all electrocardiogram findings seen in the primary care setting. Although computerized interpretation is widely available, it is considered unreliable in up to 20 percent of the cases, making competency and interpretation by family physicians an essential skill. This book provides the necessary skills for family physicians to use in interpreting electrocardiograms, both in their offices and in the emergency rooms of their hospitals. It also should prove of value to other primary care physicians, as well as medical students and residents of nearly all medical specialties. As the subtitle states, this book is about the essential elements involved in electrocardiographic interpretation. It is not all inclusive. However, it does cover the abnormalities most likely to be seen by family physicians in their everyday practice of medicine.

Univ. of Southern California, Los Angeles. A Lange Medical Book. Comprehensive synopsis of general and systemic pathology. For medical students taking their second-year pathology course. Halftone illustrations.

One medical student writes a review this book on amazon in the following words:

At our medical school Robbins basic pathology is the recommended text and I was very skeptical before starting this book. But believe me this book is really nice and I excelled in my pathology class reading this text only. No robbins for me. This book is what it says- Concise, but also what it does not say- Relevant, succint and crammable.
