WHO Laboratory Manual for the Examination and Processing of Human Semen - July 2010 Edition

Semen analysis may be useful in both clinical and research settings, for investigating male fertility status as well as monitoring spermatogenesis during and following male fertility regulation and other interventions. This manual provides updated, standardized, evidence-based procedures and recommendations for laboratory managers, scientists and technicians to follow in examining human semen in a clinical or research setting. Detailed protocols for routine, optional and research tests are elaborated.

This new edition comprises three parts: semen analysis, sperm preparation and quality assurance. The text includes descriptions of how to construct a conventional semen profile and provides standardized protocols for performing several optional diagnostic procedures. Such techniques are essential in the evaluation of infertile couples and in assessing fertility in men whose sperm production is suppressed by potential anti-fertility compounds or by toxic agents: they are also of interest in forensic medicine and in connection with artificial insemination.

The fifth edition includes new information on sperm preparation for clinical use or specialized assays and on cyropreservation, an expanded section on quality control in the semen analysis laboratory and evidence-based reference ranges and reference limits for various semen characteristics. The methods described are intended to improve the quality of semen analysis and the comparability of results from different laboratories.

Previous editions of this volume have been recognized as providing global standards in the area of fertility investigation and treatment, and have been used extensively by research and clinical laboratories throughout the world.

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (Feb 2010 Edition)

More than 30 years after the birth of Louise Brown, the first child born as a result of in vitro fertilization, the practice of reproductive medicine has grown and evolved in a dramatic and profound fashion.
The advances made in the treatment of infertility have made the care of infertile patients more successful, rewarding, and exciting. However, management of the modern reproductive
endocrinology and infertility clinic has become very complex.
This book was developed to assist the practicing reproductive endocrinologist and/or laboratory director by providing an overview of relevant scientific, medical, and management issues in a single volume. While no book can cover everything associated with managing a reproductive endocrinology clinic and laboratory, we have enlisted experts from all relevant areas to provide concise, practical, and evidence based summaries of relevant topics. It is our hope that this resource will be of assistance to physicians and scientists engaged in this exciting field of medicine.

Female Reproductive Health

When looking for a book on female reproductive health, you may find weighty tomes of 800 pages or more devoted to a single topic, for example: contraception, infertility, or menopause. Or you may find a general gynecology book that covers reproductive gynecology, but not in depth. Some books may be too theoretical and others too basic. You may find a piece of what you need in every book, but not everything you need in a single book. Until now.Female Reproductive Health provides a careful blend of basic science and clinical information. The authors answer everyday practical questions arising out of everyday practical issues. The book covers the entire range of reproductive health from anatomy and physiology, to sexually transmitted diseases, to hormone replacement therapy, to breast conditions, to sexual function and dysfunction. It contains tables that supply the statistics doctors need on risks/benefits, incidence/prevalence, success rates for assisted reproduction, and more. As an ob/gyn student, resident, or busy family doctor, you don't have time to search through several different books for information. Written by a practitioner for fellow practitioners, the book gives you hands-on advice that you can apply immediately. Female Reproductive Health makes it easy to find the information you need when you need it.
